Proper metalwork is the backbone of any high-quality restoration. At Auto Art, we specialize in classic and vintage automotive metalwork—repairing rust, fabricating discontinued parts, welding structural components, and restoring original construction methods such as leaded seams.
Our approach prioritizes structural integrity, correct fitment, and long-term durability. We do not rely on excessive filler or shortcuts. When metal is compromised, we repair or replace it correctly.
Rust Repair & Panel Replacement
We cut out rusted sections and replace them with properly formed steel, ensuring clean seams and correct panel contours. Repairs are made to last—not hidden.
Custom Metal Fabrication
When replacement panels or parts are no longer produced, we fabricate them in-house. This includes floor sections, rocker panels, patch panels, brackets, and custom structural pieces.
Welding & Structural Repair
We perform MIG and TIG welding for structural and cosmetic repairs, including frame sections, body mounts, reinforcements, and suspension mounting points where applicable.
Leaded Seam Restoration
Many vintage vehicles used lead (body solder) at factory seams. We repair and restore leaded joints properly rather than substituting modern filler where it doesn’t belong.
Panel Fitment & Alignment
Doors, hoods, trunk lids, and body panels are aligned during metalwork—not after paint—so gaps and body lines are correct before finishing begins.
Quality metalwork is intentional and methodical. Each project follows a clear progression to avoid rework and future failure.
Assessment & Disassembly
We inspect the vehicle to identify corrosion, prior repairs, and structural concerns.
Removal of Damaged Metal
Rust and compromised sections are fully removed—not patched over.
Fabrication & Repair
Replacement sections are fabricated or fitted, welded correctly, and shaped to match original lines.
Lead & Seam Restoration (When Applicable)
Factory-style leaded seams are repaired using correct techniques.
Final Metal Finishing
Panels are smoothed, aligned, and prepared for the next phase of restoration.
Paint can only be as good as the metal beneath it. Proper metalwork prevents future cracking, bubbling, and distortion—especially on vintage vehicles that flex differently than modern cars.
Our work is designed to provide a stable foundation for paint, preserve or enhance your original body lines, extend the lifespan of your car and protect the overall value of your vehicle.
Every vehicle presents unique challenges. We evaluate each project individually to determine the correct scope of repair and fabrication before work begins.
